Is your SQL Server up to date?

Run SELECT @@VERSION; in SSMS and paste the output here. A build number alone also works. The text is processed in your browser and sent nowhere.

Stop checking your SQL Servers one by one

This page checks a single build. Cardinal scans your SQL Servers regularly with a least-privilege login and reports findings such as end-of-support versions, stale statistics, overdue backups and regressed queries, with a 0–100 SQL Health Score and fix T-SQL tailored to your server.

Frequently asked questions

Run SELECT @@VERSION; or SELECT SERVERPROPERTY('ProductVersion'); in SSMS. A number such as 16.0.4295.3 in the output is the build number; the first two parts show the version (16.0 = SQL Server 2022, 15.0 = SQL Server 2019).
A cumulative update (CU) contains bug fixes, improvements and security fixes together. A GDR contains security and critical fixes only. Servers that have never had a CU installed after RTM are on the GDR branch; once a CU is installed, you cannot return to the GDR branch.
Once a day it is read automatically from Microsoft's official "Latest updates and version history for SQL Server" list. The date at the top of the page shows the last check.
After extended support ends, Microsoft no longer releases free security updates. A paid ESU programme exists for SQL Server 2016 and 2014; ESU is available only with Software Assurance or subscription licences.
